Ever have those days,
now and again,
when you feel as though
no one quite gets you?
Plead my cause, O Lord,
with those who strive with me;
Fight against those who fight against me.
Take hold of shield and buckler,
And stand up for my help.
Also draw out the spear,
And stop those who pursue me.
Say to my soul,
“I am your salvation.”
Psalm 35:1-3 NKJV
Clearly, even David,
encamped with his band of mighty men,
struggled with those types of feelings.
Alone in his heart,
feeling misunderstood by man,
he calls out to God
vulnerable, humble, lonely...
he leads us forward
in a prayer to the warrior King.
Fight for me Lord,
stand up for me God.
When I am no longer strong enough
to hold up this shield of faith,
hold it up for me,
in front of me...
to block me from all that comes my way.
And God says to my soul...
I am your salvation.
God never promised
life would be an easy road.
Uphill, downhill, dirt pathways;
potholes, loose gravel and detours.
And even when we catch clear footing,
finally figuring out who we really are,
who God has made us to be...
someone challenges us,
call us out, points a finger in our face,
as insecurity rises within.
Did they mean to threaten our dream...
as if we need an enemy?
Whatever did we do so wrong
to threaten their security?
God only knows...
so let us not pick up
the sticks and stones
to throw back at them.
But rather call on the only One
who can help.
Let them be ashamed
and brought to mutual confusion
Who rejoice at my hurt;
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor
Who exalt themselves against me.
This is a time for better choices...
I will choose not to open my mouth
I will honor my God
with peaceful lips
and a humble heart.
And I will let Him
fight my battles...
the great Warrior of my heart;
My Lord and my King
And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord;
It shall rejoice in His salvation.
Word of God,
train me, today...
to trust in the Lord for my salvation, rather than my limited strength,
to hold my words, my will and my weapons, leaving my enemies to my Warrior King.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
