Lord, I know Your promises...
they were planted in the deep down,
watered over time,
nurtured by good family and friends,
and rooted in the rich soil
of my Savior's gift of grace.
But there are times...
You know me.
When I still wonder.
When my heart can't hear
through the overcast sky
that blocks Your righteous light.
And there are days, Lord,
when I simply water those weeds.
You know, the bitter ones.
Sometimes they taste like
choking out the goodness You
had for me today.
And just when I think
I might be fed the best of what You have,
and I am picking up Your good seeds
to plant them near me, within me...
I get distracted.
I wish it weren't so,
but some pesky little thing
will take my attention from You
and I'll drop the seeds,
lost to the imbalance of a too busy life.
It's not that I haven't dedicated
my heart to You, Lord...
over and over again.
So as I read this dedication,
of Solomon with the temple he built for You,
refresh my heart,
teach me something new.
Then the Lord appeared to Solomon
by night, and said to him:
“I have heard your prayer,
and have chosen this place for Myself
as a house of sacrifice.
When I shut up heaven and there is no rain,
or command the locusts to devour the land,
or send pestilence among My people,
if My people who are called by My name
will humble themselves,
and pray and seek My face,
and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 10:13-14 NKJV
I know Your promises Lord.
And I believe You hear my prayers.
But just this strikes me fresh today...
You have chosen this place for Yourself.
This place within my heart and soul to live.
You did not need to.
You could have simply loved me from afar.
But You chose to come close.
And You do not waver.
You do not change.
Therefore, if something is missing,
it must be me.
It is simply my will that keeps me from You.
i stand in the way of my own intimacy with You.
Because I know today, just as in Solomon's day...
the drought will come,
as will the pests, the clouds and the weeds.
I will face trouble.
I will fall to sin and distraction.
But this is promised:
If I will...
PRAY and SEEK Your face,
TURN from my wicked way,
Then YOU will...
HEAR me from heaven
and FORGIVE my sin,
and HEAL my land,
Because You have chosen this place for Yourself.
Word of God,
train me, today...
to trust in Your promises, and claim them for myself,
to humble myself, pray and seek You, Lord, and turn from my wicked ways.
Lord I thank You, that
You are the same God,
yesterday, today and tomorrow.
So I trust these promises
those You gave yesterday...
are good for me today
and will also be tomorrow.
Because You have chosen
this place for Yourself.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
