God is everywhere.
So why do we need to go to church? Why can't we just worship Him where we are... at our home, in our car, while we excercise?
It's a fair question.
But where is there more of God? I mean, yes... His presence is everywhere. And yes, we can worship alone in those places. But can we seek God more deeply in a more intense, more welcome, more certain place? Can we actually usher in a greater power and gain a greater sense of God at church?
It's not the building that does it.
It's the worship. It's the unity of praise that brings more of God's presence into that place. Just as David taught the priests and Levites to do in the temple, we too can experience a greater sense of God when we go to a church that is unified in praise.
Look how the Psalmist found that even the creatures of nature were aware of this.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young...
a place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.
Psalm 84:3 NIV
The sparrow knew it.
A tender and frail little bird would never build her nest in an unsafe place. But only where her young would be safe from harm, protected and in good care.
We too should be as eager to nest near God's altar. We should yearn for such safety in His place of worship. Maybe then our soul would stop crying out in emptiness and could be filled with praise as beautiful as the sparrow.
