What you say, you believe.
Maybe not at first. But if you repeat it enough, you will. Studies have shown that what is repeated becomes familiar. And what becomes familiar can take over our rational thought becoming our belief... our 'go-to' mode. Which is why memorizing scripture is such a great idea. Because in order to do it, we need to repeat the verse over and over until it's stuck in our brain. Then our brain can tell our heart what to believe. And that's how God renews our mind... reforms us and revives us so that we are no longer part of this world. "The Lord is my refuge." Go ahead, say it. No, I mean out loud. Say it. Don't worry if someone else is around. Say it so they can hear it too. Maybe God planned that they should. Maybe they need to hear it. But mostly WE do... in order to retrain our thoughts. And look what happens as a result of this. God becomes our dwelling place, our home, our refuge... our stronghold and fortress. He promises that no harm will overtake us. He assures that no disaster will even come near. How does He do it? He enlists the help of His messengers... For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11-12 NIV How wonderful is that! I don't know about you, but I'm going to open my mouth today. I'm going to speak it out loud today. I'm in need of protection and help. My family is in need of angels to lift them up. We've got some stubbed toes that need healing. We've tripped over too many things lately because we haven't opened our lips to forth these powerful words. Won't you join me? You do it all the time. You speak. You use your voice for all sorts of stuff... ordering at a fastfood window, answering the phone to a telemarketer, complaining about a traffic jam or the red light that takes too long. Why not use it today... to bring the power and protection of God into your day... into your life and that of your family!
