Did you realize that one of the names of Jesus, is the WORD of God?
When the Psalmist wrote this, of course Jesus had yet to come to earth, but often the words of Old Testament prophets and anointed of God spoke inspired prophecy about Jesus without knowing it. Look at how the disciple John describes Jesus at the beginning of his gospel. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-3, 14 HCSB Notice how Word is capitalized. It is a proper noun in this case. And John is telling us that Jesus was doing the talking at creation. Jesus was the voice of the Trinity which spoke the world into being. His word is powerful! His word is creative! His word is right, trustworthy and just. So anytime I read a verse that includes the phrase, the word of God, I realize that it can also be understood as Jesus, Himself... capitalized or not. Jesus is powerful! Jesus is creative! Jesus is right, trustworthy and just. Look at what the prophet Isaiah says... The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever. Isaiah 40:8 It's true... Jesus remains (or lives) forever. And so it is also beautiful to realize that that the Heavens were made my Jesus, and the stars with the very breath of His mouth. How Trustworthy and beautiful to behold our Creator... Jesus!
