It's unfortunate that many people don't think of our God as one who would enjoy a party. In fact, I'd wager that most would call God a Party-Pooper before they'd consider Him a Party-Planner.
But the funny thing is, in the Old Testament, the Israelites were actually commanded to have several celebrations each year. One such even was called the Feast of Trumpets. And it was actually a seven day celebration where people had an automatic excuse from work! Can you imagine... getting to call your employer and say, "Oh I won't be at work this week because I'm going to be joyful and shouting at the Festival of Trumpets." And you'd be excused because it was commanded by God. Many of these celebrations included feasting, music, dancing and joyful shouting in order to remember how God had delivered them... how God had provided for, and protected them. He wanted them to take time to celebrate His goodness with a party. And He was the ultimate Party-Planner! Even in the New Testament, Jesus talks about there being a party... a celebration when we arrive in Heaven. He spoke of how the Kingdom of Heaven was compared to a wedding feast in Matthew 22. And in Revelation 19, we see visions of the angels celebrating in worship. There too is word of a wedding celebration to which we too are invited. And here in the Psalms, David writes of celebrating IN church... in the sanctuary. Hallelujah! Praise God in His sanctuary. Praise Him in His mighty heavens. Praise Him for His powerful acts; praise Him for His abundant greatness. Praise Him with trumpet blast; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with flute and strings. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Hallelujah! Psalm 150 HCSB So dance, sing, shout joyfully! Celebrate the fact that our God is the great Party-Planner. And just imagine what an amazing day it will be in heaven when everything that breathes praises the LORD!
