It was a time long before Jesus. A time when ritual and offering had to be followed religiously in order for the people to be given a glimpse of the glory of God.
Much had been revealed to Moses and He was a messenger of God's intention. Aaron was told that he and his sons, the newly anointed priests were to bring sacrifices before the people so that the glory of the Lord could be revealed. And so Aaron was faithful in this way. Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them. He came down after sacrificing the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the fellowship offering. Moses and Aaron then entered the tent of meeting. When they came out, they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. Fire came from the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell facedown on the ground. Leviticus 9:22-24 HCSB And the glory of the Lord was revealed; all His holiness, all the weight of His being shone fully in the fire. Who would not fall down before Him? Who would not be humbled by His presence? This is our God. The same yesterday, today and tomorrow; still holiness revealed.
