When God says, "I am Yahweh," He is technically repeating Himself. As the very name Yahweh is derived from I AM. It is the ever present name of God; the almighty description that encompasses everything He is.
All things were made by Him, all things depend on Him, all things are known by Him. Yahweh is central to all life. He is the very breath of existence. And here He is declaring His holiness, while asking His people, those whom He delivered out of slavery in Egypt, to rise up and be holy as well. This is not a call to perfection, as Yahweh knows that would be impossible for humans. But it is a call to be consecrated, set apart and separate. This is a call to distinguish their behavior from other peoples of the land, showing it is possible to live with a higher calling. And God calls us to the same, even today... even under this age of grace. Can we, will we be consecrated,.. set apart? For this requires a separation from the norm; desiring to abstain from sin, impurity and infirmity. But what does that even look like? How is that even possible? If our Holy Deliverer, the same Yahweh... the great I AM, who was, and is, and is to come, calls His people to it, then surely He can deliver us through it. He would not ask us do do something with which He is not willing also to help us. This to be certain calls for us to set our mind on higher things, to pray without ceasing, to desire to be different. This is not a "wake-up-and-go" type life. This is so much more. A mind, body and soul that are free from such things that weigh us down; a higher and more holy life. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 Renew me, LORD. Deliver me from myself and all that distracts. Help me with this holiness, Yahweh. Not just the large choices, but the small. For it is good, pleasing and perfect to seek Your will. Simply because You asked me to.
