Within this age of grace, we too are children of God. Because of Jesus death on the cross, He paid our ransom for sin... He made us too, heirs to all that God offers.
And in His presence, He longs to offer us rest from our enemies and security in our life. But just as He asked of the Israelites, He desires from us... that we not turn toward idols... that we place Him first our life.
And many of us think that these idols God detested were simply carved images that people bowed down to. When in fact, it was the attitude of their heart that concerned Him. For if we give our devotion to anything before God... desire for material wealth, a career, fame or popularity... anything really that we pursue MORE than we pursue a relationship with Him, that is idolatry.
And our God is a jealous God... in the same way we would be with a boyfriend or spouse who cheated on us. We wouldn't stand for that; Nor should God.
And what He is really after is our happiness, our contentment... our need for rest. And rest is that peaceful place we reside when all is balanced and well. But we will give the assurance of that up, if we get our priorities out of whack... we will suffer consequences of our own actions.
Let us rather turn to God... giving our whole heart to Him. Then we can enjoy the rest and security He offers, as He did to the Israelites in their promised land.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
