Have you ever been around someone who's complaint never ends? Who's tale of woe is destined in their own mind to be the worst of all mankind? Who couldn't rub two positive thoughts together if their life depended on it? Well I have!
But nothing I have ever heard them say could compare to the hardships of Job. Yet still his friends make an interesting point. It's as if they are saying...
"Are YOU the one exception in all God's creations that He cannot console?"
I mean.... "Are YOU really THAT special, that you've surpassed God's loving ability to comfort?"
Were you the first person ever born,
or were you brought forth before the hills?
Do you listen in on the council of God,
or have a monopoly on wisdom?
What do you know that we don’t?
What do you understand that is not clear to us?
Job 15:7-9 HCSB
Surely even in a truly difficult times, it's possible that our complaint and self-pity get to the point where we give them over to pride and idolatry, and we end up worshipping our problems rather than the God who can help us through them.
