God is not just good when He feels like it. He is GOOD all the time!
In fact, He stores goodness for us. So what does that actually mean?
God's goodness is:
And He tells us that this goodness is intended to accomplish. For God doesn't just hand us prizes at the end of the day. What He gives from the storehouses of heaven has the power to produce prosperity and joy in our lives.
God is faithful to:
And this isn't just when we've been "good kids." This isn't just when life is going right and we are trouble-free. For this promise was written by David when he was chased down by a life-threatening enemy.
David actually cried out, revealing his grieving heart, in the verses just before this promise...
Indeed, my life is consumed with grief
and my years with groaning;
my strength has failed
because of my sinfulness,
and my bones waste away.
I am ridiculed by all my adversaries
and even by my neighbors.
I am dreaded by my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street run from me.
I am forgotten: gone from memory
like a dead person—like broken pottery.
I have heard the gossip of many;
terror is on every side.
When they conspired against me,
they plotted to take my life
This does not describe a perfect life. It sounds more like he was barely getting by. As if he was on the edge of giving up. But then David says...
But I trust in You, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
The course of my life is in Your power;
deliver me from the power of my enemies
and from my persecutors.
Show Your favor to Your servant;
save me by Your faithful love.
This is a heart that trusts more in his God, than the circumstances around him.
So what does it mean to fear the Lord?
This too can be ours! For we have the same God who stores up for us Accomplishing Treasure!
