How can one express all that has been done for us? Yahweh, the great I AM... who existed before time and could continue without losing a drop of His power and majesty, if we were never created.
So how can we stand so proud, so tall, so eager to call ourselves... self-made? We must acknowledge that we were born into sin. So here the psalmist is more than generous to pose the question beginning with IF... Yahweh, IF You considered sins, LORD, who could stand?
Does He have a choice?
Now that I think on it... why, yes He does! He could easily look the other way, remaining holy, never allowing us to be near Him.
But that defeats the reason for which He made us... to have relationship with Him. The same reason many of us have children. I wouldn't give birth to my child and then look the other way while they floundered and failed. It breaks my heart when I see them in sorrow or despair.
And so it is... more abundantly with our Father in heaven. But WITH You there is FORGIVENESS... For it is when we come to the end of ourselves and fall upon His grace; when we become sensible and sensitive to our sin and guilt which can never soothe or satisfy our soul.
So that He may be revered... honored, in awe of, worthy of worship.
Is it more a value that we give this worshipful reverence, or that others are so amazed by the change in us that they stand back in awe? Not in awe of us, but of the One IN and FOR us.
Let us take the time, especially in this Easter season, to notice the so that...
But WITH You there is forgiveness, SO THAT He may be revered. Kind of makes you wonder if the HE is pointing to Jesus, for He did go to quite a bit of trouble for us.
