The Lord is my Shepherd.
The Bible never ceases to amaze me. How there can be 66 books, written by 40 different authors inpired by the Spirit of God to write over the course of 1500 years... and it all overlaps, intertwines and cross-references so beautifully. What an amazing work of God!
How could Micah possibly know where Jesus was to be born? Yet here, he wrote,
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.
Micah 5:2 NIV
And for approximately 700 years they waited for the Messiah, watching the city of Bethlehem for His arrival. But never did they expect such an unremarkable birth in a manger.
Most likely because...
Jesus had to out wit evil pride of those like Herod who saw anythng as a threat to their throne. You see, these prophecies of Micah are what the priests had held onto for years. And once King Herod put the pieces together that Wise Men were planning to visit a baby that fit the description of this prophecy, he began his order to have all baby boys killed.
But the Spirit of God...
was one step ahead, warning the Wise Men and Joseph; keeping them out of harm's way. Thankfully, we now have a Shepherd who stands strong for us in the majesty of the Lord. And we can live securely because His greatness will reach the ends of the earth!
