the tide rises… waves crashing… clear blue curls pounding, crushing shells into sand.
the tide flows… gently washing… white tipped waters licking the shore.
the sea uncontrollable, like emotions... which often overwhelm me in waves.
but I can choose…
to get out of the surf.
to stand further back.
to find higher ground.
under my feet… crushed by the past… are the emotions I left behind.
now softer… sand like, on which I walk… comes reality.
no matter the day, the hour, the moment… waves will come.
the tide rises… the tide flows…
I have the survived the tide
and now stand
on it's wreckage… crushed feelings… now softer with time.
God has worn away my edges… eroded my rocky places… smoothed and softened.
from a distance,
this ocean is a wonder,
stand too close,
and become part
of it's chaos
to stand firm… on the solid Rock… the firm Foundation… the Word of God.
I will not be moved.
I can enjoy the beauty
of His creation
when I find my rightful place
not letting it
with my own emotions.
Sensible people control their temper;
they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.
can represent the attack of another's words… actions… intentions.
can represent the circumstance I step into… when I shouldn't.
can be my internal emotion… anger, fear, anxiety, depression.
can wreck me… tumbling, twirling inside… desperately trying to catch my breath.
come and go… high tide and low.
that I can stand back… further from shore… on a solid ground.
that I do not need… to get sucked in… by the pull of the tide.
that I have a God… who created all things… and is stable and strong.
that I can lend a hand… reach out to others… who are being dragged under the surf.
The Lord is my rock and
my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom
I take refuge, my shield,
and the horn of my salvation,
For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God?
Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily!
Be a rock of refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
I shall not be greatly shaken.
Be to me a rock of refuge,
to which I may continually come;
you have given the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
Word of God,
train me, today...
to help me as I stand on the shore of today, watching for the waves,
to let me recognize Your beauty
in each new day, walking firmly
in You as my foundation,
I know that waves will come,
as I have walked this beach before.
Thank You for walking by my side,
holding my hand,
being my Guide.
Steady me when the waves of emotion challenge my heart.
Help me to hold my words,
control my actions,
and stand firm in knowing
You are in control.
And if I should see others… struggling… pulled in by the waves,
give me strength and long arms
to pull them to safety,
pointing them to…
Your solid Rock.
