Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
“On the first day of the first month
you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.
You shall put in it the ark of the Testimony,
and partition off the ark with the veil...
Thus Moses did; according to all that the Lord had commanded him, so he did.
Exodus 40:1-2,16 (NKJV)
After the all the work was done to complete the tabernacle of the tent of meeting and all that was to be contained within it, the Lord instructed Moses to inspect it, to bless it, to assemble it, and to anoint it for use.
But notice what God asks of him first...
to set in place the ark of the Testimony.
For that is where the Lord will reside.
Moses raises the tent of the Most Holy place,
puts in the ark, it's contents, and places the mercy seat on top.
He partitions it with the veil, and then works his way out
to the parts of the tabernacle
that serve, that support, that exist because God is present
in the center... above the mercy seat of the ark.
Moses starts with the most important first.
And that is what God would ask of us...
If only we would also listen...
and give the first of our time,
and our mind...
to our Lord.
Putting Him in the center...
seeking His presence,
and then working our way out...
filling the rest of our day with the parts that surround,
that serve, that support, that simply exist because of Him.
So what does that mean?
Often for me, it begins with a prayer when my alarm sounds.
Even as I lay in my bed, before I put my feet on the floor.
And then it is a plan
to carve out time for God
before anything else.
Setting an alarm a little earlier
so I am not rushed or
squeezing God into my day.
And what are we do do in this time?
read His word,
listen to praise music,
any combination of things that center you, not on yourself...
but on God.
For there is not magic formula,
there is no set schedule.
It is all about connecting with God first.
And even on those days when you think you have no extra time...
do it anyway.
For God is the author of time.
He can do amazing things with the day you have ahead.
He can stretch time for you,
shorten and quicken tasks.
He can save you steps,
give you strength,
lighten your load...
often, simply because you put Him first.
It is never an extra thing that you have to "work" at.
It is the most precious time of the whole day,
that becomes a necessity...
a piece of your day that you will one day realize you cannot live without.
Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting,
and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
And you will find yourself in His presence.
Oh to understand the glory of the Lord!
Word of God... train me, today...
to always put You first in my life,
to know that everything else falls into place after that.
Lord, I thank You...
for revealing Your presence to me.
For You are the first and most important breath I take,
and I yearn for more...
ever more of you each day.
