I don't know if you love
worship in song as much as I do.
But today, when I read about David...
I thank God for what he has done.
For God used David to satisfy my soul!
Because he was the one
to bring music into the act of worship.
Moreover David and the captains of the army
separated for the service
some of the sons of Asaph,
of Heman, and of Jeduthun,
who should prophesy with harps,
stringed instruments, and cymbals.
1 Chronicles 25:1 NKJV
David, this great king,
was once a shepherd boy
who encouraged himself with song,
and was also called upon
to console the desperate soul
of Saul with his harp.
This same David, now an elderly King,
in one of his last acts before crowning
his son Solomon his heir,
sets apart this division of Levites
as prophets of worship in service
of the tabernacle.
For it says some Levites are appointed...
to look after the work of the house of the Lord,
some to be officers and judges,
and others, to praise the Lord
with musical instruments,
“which I made,” said David,
“for giving praise.”
1 Chronicles 23:5
And to that, I sing out...
Thank you, David!
For my worship is ever more complete
because I feel connected to heaven,
lifted to God,
set right and complete,
when I worship in song.
There is simply something about
words set to music that soothes our soul.
And David knew it well.
And here he penned one of my favorite Psalms...
Make a joyful shout to the Lord,
all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us,
and not we ourselves;
We are His people and
the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.
Word of God,
train me, today...
to never neglect my connection to You with worship in melody and song,
to us my gifts, as David did, bringing a new perspective on worship.
I thank You, Lord,
His life You shared
with all of us.
His gifts became
His Psalms our daily praise.
Guide me and gift me
to give to others as well,
that I might help to enrich
their praise and worship;
that I might point to You
a glorious adoration.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
