When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.
Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
Genesis 3:8-9 (NLT)
If I were to sit somewhere in my home to read, work on my laptop, watch TV...
and one of my family members walked up behind me, I would know, without turning around exactly who it was.
Simply because, I know the sound of their footfall in our home.
I know how their body moves, how they swing their arms, each movement, each action that makes noise...
Even if they never speak a word when walking by,
I know them, because I live with them every day.
And so it was with Adam, Eve, and God in the Garden of Eden.
After the serpent convinced Eve to take the fruit of the tree of Good and Evil and eat it, she then shared it with Adam. Their eyes were opened to their nakedness, they felt shame, and they hid.
Even from God.
But what truly strikes me...
what amazes me is that,
the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden...
Oh how I envy knowing God like that! To be ever so close to His presence that I know His footfall... that I can hear Him coming.
That is what this New Year is about for me.
That is my purpose in this daily reading.
To open the Bible each morning...
knowing that He is present in these words on the page.
To inhale the very breath of God, and pray for Him to speak life into me.
Then as I spend time with Him, I will learn of Him and live for Him.
And each day, I will understand Him, more and more.
So next time I am sitting somewhere in my home to read,
to work on my laptop, to watch TV...
and if there is a moment that God wants my attention,
without question, I will know exactly who it is.
Simply because, I know the sound of His footfall on my heart.
I will know His Spirit better.
Each movement, each action that He takes...
I know will know Him, because I choose to spend time with Him, to learn from Him and live for Him every day.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
