In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Judges 21:25 NKJV
So ends the book of Judges.
It is truly a wonder that this historical event...
the Levite and his concubine,
be included in a holy book of scripture.
But God has His purposes.
Cleary to show how low our human nature can plummet
without the influence of God in our lives.
We are exempt from nothing in the presence of evil.
Chaos and anarchy spiral out of control...
one bad decision after another
enveloped this place in darkness unimaginable.
Harm had befallen not just one abused and murdered woman,
but many souls... even those who surely suffered regret
of evil decisions made.
And a curse befell the tribe of Benjamin.
Close to extinction,
the other tribes diligently sought the Lord...
the battle the tribes was fierce.
Only the hand of the Lord could preserve them...
twice they inquired of the Lord.
But only when ALL the children of Israel bowed before Him
fasted and brought their offerings,
recognizing Him as God and King,
did He deliver them.
And do we dare look at our society today...
as we live in a world wandering to this same end?
Freedom from religion,
schools without prayer,
courthouses without the Ten Commandments,
science classes that teach only evolution, and not creation.
In these days, without a King...
everyone will do what is right in his own eyes.
Are we too in the last chapters of Judges...
watching, waiting to see
how low our human nature can plummet
without the influence of God in our society?
Chaos and anarchy can spiral out of control.
So let us not neglect to pray...
Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my meditation.
Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God,
For to You I will pray.
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.
For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
Nor shall evil dwell with You.
The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity.
You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;
In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
Make Your way straight before my face.
For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;
Their inward part is destruction;
Their throat is an open tomb;
They flatter with their tongue.
Pronounce them guilty, O God!
Let them fall by their own counsels;
Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,
For they have rebelled against You.
But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.
For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
Psalm 5:1-12 NKJV
Let us not forget,
no matter who is leader of our nation,
God is our King forever.
Word of God...
train me, today...
to pray for our people and our nation, with hearts to turn to You,
to humble my heart and plead that I always recognize You as King.
let me never forget You as King.
I rejoice and trust in You.
I shout for joy
because You defend us.
You make our way straight.
You are ever our shield.
Let me be open and honest,
ever joyful in my praise
for all You have done in my life.
Let it be a contagious joy
so that others will
want more of You.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
