To atone... to be "at one"... unified with...
and especially in unity with God, our Creator.
We often think we are drawn to Him, when in fact...
it is He that calls, He that loves, He that longs for unity with us.
Over and over the cycle has continued throughout the ages.
God creates man.... and within him a void that only God can fill.
Man pulls away, turns to sin and self... man is lacking, and depraved.
So God must turn from man... for He cannot look upon sin.
God longs for man to return to Him... for He is all and only GOOD.
Man repents, atones, returns to God.
God is good to man...
man pulls away...
and the cycle repeats.
And so it is written in the Book of Leviticus...
the Laws, the sacrifices and offerings the Levites,
the lineage of Priests would offer on behalf of God's people.
There was need to make atonement for their sins,
to bring unity once again with God
Then the priest shall offer the sin offering,
and make atonement for him
who is to be cleansed from his uncleanness.
Leviticus 14:19 (NKJV)
And throughout the Old Testament, the cycle repeats...
And I will make an everlasting covenant with them:
I will never stop doing good for them.
I will put a desire in their hearts to worship me,
and they will never leave me.
But they did...
as the cycle continued, they did leave Him.
As we all do... as sinners.
And the time finally came for God to alter the cycle.
For God revealed a new plan, a mysterious and miraculous plan.
He said, “They are my very own people.
Surely they will not betray me again.”
And He became their Savior.
In all their suffering He also suffered,
and He personally rescued them.
In His love and mercy He redeemed them.
He lifted them up and carried them
through all the years.
Isaiah 63:8-9 (NLT)
And we find, yet again, even in this new plan,
a familiar word appears...
Atonement... to be "at one"... unified with Him.
This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ
for all those who believe and trust in Him.
There is no distinction, since all have sinned
and continually fall short of the glory of God,
and are being justified... declared free of the guilt of sin,
made acceptable to God, and granted eternal life
as a gift by His precious and undeserved grace,
through the the payment for our sin which is provided in Christ Jesus,
whom God displayed publicly before the eyes of the world
as a life-giving sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation
by His blood to be received through faith.
This was to demonstrate His righteousness...
which demands punishment for sin,
because in His forbearance... His deliberate restraint,
He passed over the sins previously committed, before Jesus’ crucifixion.
Romans 3:22-25 (AMP)
and here we are today...
But they rebelled against Him
and grieved His Holy Spirit...
Lord, look down from heaven;
look from Your holy, glorious home, and see us...
Lord, why have You allowed us to turn from Your path?
Why have You given us stubborn hearts so we no longer fear You?
Isaiah 63:10, 15, 17 (NLT)
Word of God... train me, today...
to ever long for unity with You,
to seek and search for new and interesting ways to tell others of Your glory.
how very sad for my heart
to read of the never ending rebellion of our hearts.
How many souls have turned against You...
and yet, You are ever faithful.
I thank You and praise You for chasing after my heart...
let me never leave Your side.
And when I drift, chase me down,
and swiftly bring me back to You.
For I never wish to break Your heart.
from my heart...
I write as an overflow... an expression of my true love for God and with a deep desire to encourage others in their day to day lives. For we can only find peace, joy, and satisfaction when we yield to the One who yielded His life for us.
